Transatlantic legal eagles settle at Number One Bristol
Like many young couples, solicitor Alex Marks and his American attorney wife Dani, who is from West Palm Beach in Florida, have been looking to get on the property ladder for some time.
With sky high deposits and lack of suitable homes, Alex had already realised this wasn’t likely to happen in London. A move to Bristol in 2015, when the couple got married, made property ownership a real possibility.
Alex said, “I had been doing a lot of online research to see what was available. Number One Bristol instantly jumped out. Dani was equally keen when hearing about the gym, concierge and sky garden for residents. After one visit we were both hooked”.
Location, specification and memories of home
For first time buyers, buying ‘off-plan” can be nerve wracking. Alex and Dani found the combination of the location and the high standard of the specification with respected brands and manufacturers, such as Porcelanosa, helped the decision. Dani particularly liked the clean, modern and sleek styling of the scheme, “We were already renting in central Bristol, so we knew the location was right for us. Number One Bristol reminds me of the apartments that we have back home in the States, particularly because it offers so many amenities” she said.
Alex and Dani believed the show apartment definitely reinforced their decision to buy, “I think we had already made our decision, but the show apartment definitely did help”. With their move-in planned for July, we asked Alex and Dani what they were most looking forward to; Dani didn’t have to think twice, “Having 2 bathrooms! I will not need to share with Alex anymore. The bathrooms are really spacious compared to many new build apartments we’ve seen. It is the same with the kitchen area, there is lots of storage space. These apartments felt very different”. Alex agreed with Dani and added “We thought Number One really stood out from the other new builds. It’s clear the developer hasn’t tried to cram as many apartments in as possible at the expense of comfort. We also really like the large balcony and access to the sky garden, which should be a great place to relax in the summer”.
Helping hand for Help to Buy
The P G Group is very supportive of the Help to Buy Scheme and promotes it across the company’s developments. Following careful research, Alex and Dani opted for the Help to Buy Equity Loan. Heather Murphy who runs the Sales and Marketing suite at Number One Bristol was on hand to help with the buying process, along with Fiona from The Mortgage Brain.
“I immediately called Dani and of course we celebrated that night at our favourite Italian”.
When Heather told the couple they had been successful, they were understandably ecstatic. “It had been a stressful morning at work and then the email came through saying we had been approved – suddenly it all became very real, I immediately called Dani and of course we celebrated that night at our favourite Italian”.
So, come July will Alex be carrying Dani over the threshold of their new home? “It’s our first home so I’m certainly looking forward to that” said Dani. “I also can’t wait to decorate. It will be the first time that we’ll have the autonomy over what our space will look like as we’ll be the owners. I’ve been looking at colours schemes and I think maybe an accent wall in the lounge, perhaps taupe, along with some new furniture – possibly espresso coloured wood”.
On a more serious note, for Alex and Dani, the security of owning their own home after many years of renting is something they are both looking forward to. Help to Buy can make a big difference for first time buyers and there are still a number of apartments at Number One Bristol with Help to Buy
